| It sounds like she didn't exactly enjoy her first bath. |
My next task was just getting up to get in a wheel chair and go to the bathroom...which almost ended up with me passed out. It was definitely an interesting feeling, watching my vision get blurry and pounding in my head get worse. I just told the nurse as each thing got worse and worse and she was able to hurry and get me sitting down. Even then, still almost passed out. It had never experienced it where I literally couldn't keep my eyes open; my whole body just wanted to relax and turn off. Sadly, this resulted in the nurse putting smelling whatever under my nose. And wow that wakes you up! Nasty smelling stuff.
Anyway, so the rest of the night consisted of me trying to get a little rest while waiting for Claire and Clayton to join me. A couple hours later they finally did, and of course, Clayton went right off to sleep and slept the rest of the night. I couldn't sleep. There was a new baby in the room that I still couldn't believe was here and all the nurses coming in every few minutes all night long kept me from really sleeping. But I got some quiet moments with my sleeping baby.
The next two days were very nice. We were able to sleep (by we, I mean Clayton. That boy slept all day and all night). Some friends and family came to say hi. And we were able to get to know our baby. I had planned for Claire to be taken to the nursery at night time so we could both get some sleep, but the nurses put her in with us and I was just fine with that. Thankfully brand new babies only want to sleep, so she was pretty easy. The second night a nurse came in the middle of the night to do some tests and took Claire away for them; the sweet woman actually kept her for a few hours so I could FINALLY get some uninterrupted sleep. She only brought her back when Claire needed to be fed. It was wonderful to be able to spend time with just my hubby and new baby and to drink as much apple juice as I wanted for a few days. :)
It finally came time to check out and go home. We were so excited to get real life started and to be done with nasty hospital food. (seriously, their food was nasty.) All of our stuff was packed and ready to go, we talked to the nurse, and she went to get the on-call pediatrician to check us out. The peditrician came in, said everything looked good but they didn't have a record of Claire pooping so we couldn't go home. We were not happy. She refused to sign our release until we gave Claire this certain kind of formula and she had a bowel movement. Eyeballing it, she said we had to stay until at least 6 or 7 that night. Well all of that was no good. Early on we had decided we were only going to breast feed Claire, no formula (not that there's anything wrong with formula, but it's what we wanted.) So that was a big no for us. And our insurance only covered until noon. There was no way we were going to pay to stay later. So after around an hour of our poor nurse fighting for us to get out of there with the pediatrician (so grateful she was on our side!), she did some digging and our wonderful nurse who took Claire for a couple hours that one night had documented that Claire had pooped. We were very excited, and the nurse said she was going to go tell the doctor. When she came back she had an awkward/annoyed look on her face. The obnoxious doctor STILL wouldn't let us leave! She was adamant that Claire still drink the formula and have ANOTHER poop before we could go. The nurse was cute and she told us that there was no reason for us to stay, and encouraged us to say flat-out no. So we did, and the next time we saw the nurse she had our check-out paperwork. Finally we headed home with our new addition!
